What is a Keyboard Counter?
A keyboard counter is an online tool that tracks how many times you press keys on your keyboard. Every keystroke you make is counted and recorded individually so you can see a full breakdown of which keys you pressed and how many times.
Unlike a simple click counter that only tracks one total number, ToolNest's keyboard counter shows you the count for every individual key. You can see your most pressed key, your total keystroke count, how many unique keys you used and your current typing speed in keys per second.
The tool works entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install and no account needed. Just click the counting area and start pressing keys to begin tracking instantly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the keyboard counter free to use?+
Yes, it is completely free. There is no signup, no account and no payment required. All features including the per-key breakdown and KPS meter are available at no cost.
Which keys does it track?+
The tool tracks every key on your keyboard including letters A to Z, numbers 0 to 9, the spacebar, Enter, Backspace, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Tab, arrow keys and all symbol keys. Every keypress is recorded individually.
Does it record what I type?+
No. The tool only counts how many times each key is pressed. It does not record the words you type, store any text or send any data to a server. Everything stays in your browser only.
Why do I need to click the box first?+
The counting area needs keyboard focus to capture your key presses. Clicking the dashed box gives it focus so your keystrokes are counted by the tool rather than going to other elements on the page.
Will my data save if I close the tab?+
The keystroke data stays active while the page is open. If you close or refresh the tab all counts will reset. Note down any important results before leaving the page.
Does it work on a phone?+
Yes. Tapping the key zone and using your phone's on-screen keyboard will register keystrokes. The layout is fully responsive and works on phones and tablets.
